In our last article we looked at the shortlist for the 2017 RIBA London Regional awards and explained how proud we are to be on the list. To our surprise we have also found ourselves on another shortlist for a prestigious award later this year.
The 2017 RIBA East Regional awards celebrated its second record breaking year in a row with 31 projects making the list. In 2016 25 names made it this far. An increase in excess of 20% shows how great the period has been for architecture in the region.
The number of project put forward has also risen substantially in the year. The RIBA jury had to pick from 62 entries and surprisingly have put an impressive 50% in the running to win.
Again a jury from RIBA will be visiting each project in person to look at it in more detail before deciding on the winners. The award ceremony is being held slightly earlier than the London one, taking place on the 18th May.
Just like Regional winners in London, those from the East will also move on to competing for the National Awards and the Stirling Prize if they are successful again.
The project of ours that successfully made it on to the shortlist is the Modern Detached house in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. It was challenging to come up with the perfect design, satisfying the needs of the client and the planning restrictions in place in the suburban setting. We took inspiration from nearby arts and crafts designs for homes and created a stylish, modern, contextually responsive home.
Once again you can head to Architects Journal to see all 31 projects on the shortlist for the RIBA East Regional awards. The work is even more diverse than those in London, featuring unique homes like the Modern Detached, conversions, the creation of a Buddhist retreat, and even a structure on stilts. We suggest you have a look at all of the wonderful designs.
Although we are most well known as one of the leading architects London is home to we have been involved with numerous projects beyond the city. We bring the same creativity and passion to these projects and couldn’t be happier that one of them has generated the kind of response we relish.
