Developing a new multi-use space for Holborn

Here at Coffey Architects, we’re excited about embarking on our latest project, which will involve the redevelopment of a one-acre site in Central London which is currently home to the council-run Holborn Library and Cockpit Yard arts space. Working in collaboration with developers U+I and Camden Council, we will remodel and revitalise the existing library, create 105 new homes, add new studio spaces, and design an archive facility for local study. Celebrating the short term

Pop-up architecture has risen in popularity over the last few years because of the many incredible advantages it offers. The temporary nature of the structures means that architects can focus entirely on the design, with a reduced set of practical criteria to satisfy. There are more rules for permanent structures and the designs need to be suitable for a wider range of purposes, so temporary architecture tends to offer more scope for original flights of fancy. We’re on the list

The shortlist for the RIBA London Regional Awards 2016 was announced at the beginning of March. It includes 68 buildings across the capital, each of which was visited by a jury who assessed it to decide if it was fit for inclusion. The chosen architectural works are extremely diverse and include new builds, extensions and renovations across a variety of sectors and settings. Continue reading
