A number of independent bodies and housing charities have revealed that the amount of new housing being built each year is around only half of the number of new homes that are needed in real terms. A new housing development in Mitcham has been officially opened this month with the aim of alleviating some of the need for affordable, practical housing in the capital. The Y:Cube is a block of 36 self-contained, pre-assembled flats based around a central courtyard.
