The winners of the AZ Awards for 2015 have been announced, awarding honours to the best 19 projects spanning several categories including architecture, landscapes, interiors, furnishings and lighting. Inspired architecture is improving the capital’s public spaces
Since the beginning of the 21st century, we have seen dramatic changes in attitudes towards the streets and public spaces of London. The capital’s squares, parks, rivers and green spaces play an equally important role as the surrounding buildings when it comes to creating a more human city. Recent years have seen all manner of projects put in place throughout London to revitalise its public spaces, including the construction of the Olympic Park, the pedestrianisation of Trafalgar Square and many smaller projects that have focused on improving the city’ streets and parks. Carrying out work on a listed building
In broad terms, a listed building is a property or structure that is protected because of its historical significance, meaning that there are restrictions on the type of activities and alterations that can take place. There are just over half a million listed buildings across the UK, and the number of buildings awarded listed status is growing every week. A very large number of these buildings are based in London.
