Although usually we’d lean towards being more modest about such things, we are absolutely thrilled to have been named as the Visionary Architect/Master Planner of the Year at the recent MIPIM UK property expo in Olympia. With the current period being one of the most dynamic, challenging, informed, and frankly exciting periods architecture has known, it is truly flattering for us to have won in the face of some truly outstanding and exceptional work across the field throughout the year.

We’d like to use this award as a point of departure to discuss vision. It would be fair to say that the ability to have a vision, both literally and metaphorically, is the foundation for all architectural endeavours. By this we mean it’s just as important to understand what vision is being expressed in the design as it is to be able to visualise what the completed project would look like. Our informed approach considers all aspects which connect to create this vision.

The priority in understanding the vision for an architectural project is to understand the people who will engage with the building. We consider the wishes and wants of those commissioning the work and those who will ultimately make use of the structure. By doing this we are able to combine elements that are wanted with aspects that are needed to deliver an ideal vision of the architecture required.

As aspect of equal importance is how the architecture will connect and interact with the environment. In order to create a complete vision it’s important to understand how the it would form part of the flow of nature. In order for architectural work to be considered a success it must become a prominent part of its setting rather than risk being a distraction or obstruction.

Once again we’d like to say how incredibly proud of this award we are. It gives us the confidence of knowing that our approach is one that’s shared, appreciated and desired within our world. We look forward to sharing our vision as architects, always making certain that we remain informed and inspired by the vision of those who work with us.
