The MIPIM property event in Cannes last week proved to be a major success for UK based companies. The loom of Brexit naturally has many people worried but that wasn’t evident amongst the companies participating. In fact the branding “Invest in Great” turned many heads and proved to be equal to, and in many cases greater than, the marketing effort of many major European cities. This was helped by the information that overseas investments in the UK are continuing.
One of the high points of MIPIM for the UK was the amount of discussions taking place regarding modular buildings and prefabrication. Both of these have been pushed as ways to help solve the housing crisis as they would allow homes to be built much faster to keep up with demand.
A main selling point of modular buildings is the fact that designs and manufacturing processes can be refined periodically to keep them up to date. That way the architecture can evolve and the homes can satisfy changes in trends and the needs of inhabitants.
Another big focus of the MIPIM event was the UK Government giving their support to the architectural sector and promoting more exporting. The Department for International Trade (DIT) sent staff to the event to liaise with British architects who wanted to take their first or next steps in working overseas.
The above coincided with our own reveal of LondonOn and the choice of Los Angeles as our first city to research. We were happy to present this project with our collaborators at Duggan Morris and Haptic Architects.
MIPIM was a really fantastic event for us and we met many fantastic attendees during it. In addition we were proudly mentioned as the “next generation of global entrepreneurs” by the Architects Journal in their round-up of the event. We couldn’t be happier that we made such an impact.
