We recently put the finishing touches to our Moor Courts project in Woking, Surrey. The project was a challenge but we worked hard to deliver a design that our client, PegasusLife, would love. Our success is further evidence that we are an architect London clients and those outside the area enjoy working with.
The project was recently in an article on the Architects’ Journal website. It discussed some of the specifics, including the layout of the building and how it is arranged around a central courtyard.
The industrial heritage
One of the best things about the design is how it celebrates the heritage of the property. It was formerly an industrial laundry but had become derelict over the years. The warehouse style silhouette and features such as the zinc roof and beautiful brickwork reference the history of the building. There are individual pitched roofs to separate different homes.
We are really proud of the design quality. One of the aims was to create a strong sense of community for the new retirement living project. As a result all properties have access on the central courtyard. There are plenty of shared outdoor amenities, including the courtyard and balconies. Each balcony provides some useful outdoor space and also encourages residents to be more neighbourly because they run along the entire floor.
All of the apartments in the building are dual aspect. As a result there are operable windows on two sides, making the homes brighter and improving the ventilation. The homes on the top floor have the best views.
