Moving forward with new high quality homes in Croydon

In the past we have written about how proud we were to be selected to design new council housing for Croydon. We are amongst a number of companies to be asked to submit designs and lend our expertise to the project. The local authority wants to create homes that will be sustainable and last, consulting architects in London was their way of doing this.

The project recently took a big step forward when Croydon Council granted planning permission for the first batch of housing on eight separate sites in the Borough. Our plans for 58 homes on four sites were amongst these. The properties we designed for Uvedale Crescent, King Henry’s Drive, Oxford Road, and Chertsey Road Garages will now get the go-ahead.

We are incredibly proud of our work on the project and having the opportunity to work with Brick by Brick, Croydon Council’s own private development company. In total 111 properties will be built on the eight sites. The new homes will suit different requirements with some available for private sale, shared ownership, and affordable rent.

Consent for most of the sites was waved through by Croydon Council thanks to their delegation powers. Only Kingsdown Avenue by Mae Architects had to go to committee before permission was granted.

The permission means that work on the sites can begin imminently. It is hoped that the first homes will be available for habitation by the summer of 2018. This will naturally depend on how quickly the work progresses from this point on though.

Whilst the construction is ongoing more will be going on behind the scenes to develop additional sites. In total it is hoped that over 1,000 high quality new homes designed by architects in London will be created by 2019. All of them will be situated on council-owned infill sites.

We are incredibly proud that our designs have been deemed high quality and hope to be involved in further projects in the Borough in the future.
