The positive aspects of space limitations

We can easily understand how, to those on the outside looking, it seems paradoxical to say that there exists a shortage of space in which to build in London. Those who look at the region from a perspective of some distance see how huge the area is and simply cannot believe that land for building is at a premium. As a leading architect in London we can assure you it is true. It is because of this situation that we have always advocated concentrating ideas of space rather than set notions of what a house or building should feature.

A significant part of our approach sees us encourage our clients to think in terms of what to do with the space available. This is instead of being distracted by trying to work out how to fit all the rooms you have in mind into the area, or in cases of renovations how to work around the rooms which exist to get what you want.

We understand that many believe a property should feature what some call a traditional arrangement of rooms. There is however absolutely no rulebook which states or otherwise dictates what a property should contain. You are free to decide for yourself.

One of our great strengths as an architect in London is we gain a clear understanding from you about your ambitions and requirements in respect of what you seek the property to deliver. This we do with the focus very clearly on what can be achieved with the space available rather than limiting ideas by considering what cannot be done.

We would of course never seek to suggest that we could deliver the impossible on any project. What we can do is employ our experience exploring all options in respect of what is possible with space. This leads to far more informed and advantageous work than that which is influenced by what cannot be done.

The most recent example of our work which highlights this is the Hidden House project. We hope that time permits you to have a look at this remarkable work on our website.

Our team worked with a significantly limited amount of space in the demarcated Conservation Area of Clerkenwell Green to create a one storey, two bedroom dwelling. This project was a formidable challenge, but one we were delighted to take on. It is a work widely recognised as being successful on all possible levels, and represents the high level of engagement, dedication and delivery we bring to all of our projects.
