At Coffey Architects our aim is to make properties that people enjoy spending time in, ensuring they do more than simply serve their purpose. To achieve this we work closely with the clients, really getting to know them so we can produce the right design. When we move on to doing the work we stick closely to the plans, ensuring deviations are only done when absolutely necessary and making sure they don’t detract from the space.
Our approach was recently mentioned with great praise in an article for Metro News. The focus of the piece was the work we did on a Mews home in Lancaster Gate, Bayswater, Central London. We were chosen as the architect for the project surprisingly thanks to some of the past proposals we had submitted for cutting edge projects.
Mews properties are renowned for presenting a number of challenges when it comes to renovation. They can have very tricky layouts and unusually shaped rooms, making it challenging to get the best use from them. Additionally lighting can be an issue, especially with limited windows. This becomes an even bigger challenge if the property has a basement like the Lancaster Gate home.
The aim of our design was to create a more inhabitant-friendly layout, increase the amount of light in spaces, and utilise cutting edge solutions that make the maximum use of the space available. We are incredibly proud of the work and the happiness of our clients. They even embraced the designs to the point where they purchased new furniture to fit perfectly with them.
The project was a challenging one but has proven to be incredibly invigorating, both for our team and the property owners themselves. As an added bonus the Mews home will be featured in a forthcoming episode of Grand Designs and has been added to the 20 property shortlist for the RIBA House of the Year Award.
