The shortlist for the RIBA London Regional Awards 2016 was announced at the beginning of March. It includes 68 buildings across the capital, each of which was visited by a jury who assessed it to decide if it was fit for inclusion. The chosen architectural works are extremely diverse and include new builds, extensions and renovations across a variety of sectors and settings.
The London Regional Awards are prestigious in their own right, but they offer even bigger potential rewards for the winners. The successful projects will go on to be considered for a RIBA National Award. The Stirling Prize for best building of the year will then be awarded to one of these winners.
The Regional winners from London will be decided after another round of visits and judging by a jury. The prizes will be awarded at a ceremony on 3rd May after the final decisions are made. The National Awards follow in June, and the Stirling Prize comes later in 2016.
RIBA has been awarding prizes for architecture in the UK for over 50 years. The awards simply celebrate the best work in architectural design, regardless of the setting, the scale or the budget involved. Over the years, each winning project has displayed innovation and a view to the future of architecture, while also holding to the core commitment that architecture is designed to enrich the lives of the people who use it.
We are proud to have three of our own projects on the shortlist. They include our Modern Mews renovation, Modern Side Extension and the U+I Headquarters. Each project involved transforming an existing property to make it useful for a new purpose, giving them a new lease of life and ensuring superb functionality for the people who live and work in them. You can view pictures from each project on our website and find more information about the designs.
No matter whether we reach success in these awards, we remain dedicated to giving existing properties new vitality, as well as creating sustainable new builds in the public and commercial sectors.
