Architecture is a form of art that allows people to express their visions for structures, just as painters do in their work. Out of all the London firms, there is no other team like ours at Coffey Architects. We see the potential for buildings with dated designs and take a modern approach in order to breathe new life into them.
The Royal Institute of British Architects awards are some of the most prestigious, particularly when it comes to recognising excellent work. They are one of the highest honours an architect can receive. The work of our team on Modern Mews homes has earned us a spot on RIBA’s 2016 House of the Year longlist. The existing structure that we worked on suffered from a lack of light in the interior due to only having windows to the front. The master bedroom and en-suit on lower ground had no natural light whatsoever and the bedrooms on top felt disconnected and underutilised because of the tiny spiral stairs at the building’s rear.
To overcome these issues, we undertook several modifications. To begin with we moved the spiral stairs to avoid the problem of corridors taking up too much space and placed it at the centre. Here, the stairs are able to connect to four floors of accommodation, accompanied by a extravagant burst of light. When combined with glazed landings and a glazed roof above, the sunshine is able to penetrate all corners and transform the house into a paradise of light. The living room was swapped around along with the master bedroom and en suite, with a glass floor introduced to the front of the house. Placed on the ground level, the glass permits natural light into the living room on the lower floor.
Throughout the last decade, we have been providing London with fresh and modern updates on old style structures such as the mews housing. With our experience, we are capable of transforming the buildings of old into shining examples of modern architecture, showcasing our creativity in the process. For all of your architectural needs, we are the company to call.
