Addressing climate change through architecture

We recently participated in the MIPIM 2016 Expo in Cannes. For the past 25 years, this four-day event has brought together professionals who are involved in all aspects of the building and property industry throughout the world, from architects to investors to logistics and industrial specialists. The included exhibitions and events provide a great opportunity for us all to discuss what we’ve achieved, but most importantly it gives an ideal foundation for discussions about how to move ahead in the right way. In this spirit, many of the meetings this year were focused on addressing climate change.

Sustainability and climate change issues are always a key consideration in our work. More and more companies involved in the architectural and construction sectors are becoming aware of their obligations when it comes to delivering a more sustainable and environmentally supportive level of work, and as London-based architects we are certainly not excluded from this. A driving passion of our practice has always been to embrace the environment where our plans will be realised, and we look forward to the day when this approach will be universally adopted throughout the world. It is vital that new techniques and materials are embraced in order to carry on creating beneficial buildings with a positive impact, so architects and developers must keep on evolving and developing as we move into the future.

One of the great values of MIPIM was the assurance of knowing that we are not alone in facing these challenges. Climate change is a concern for the whole planet. We were inspired by the opportunity to spend time with members of the global community of architects, exploring the ways in which architecture can adapt to address the dangers of climate change. The valuable information we’ve drawn from MIPIM will be embraced in our future work, ensuring that we can offer an even greater sense of environmental benefit in future projects.
