We are well known for having a keen sense of environmental awareness in all the work that we do. We believe that for modern architects in London and throughout the world, it is vital to operate in a way that is as environmentally friendly and resource efficient as possible. London poses some unique challenges in this regard, with resource management becoming a particularly vital matter as space becomes more limited in the capital. At this moment, supplying power to buildings in London is one of the biggest concerns.
London’s power grid is currently taking the strain of all the new development underway. The ageing network is presently struggling to meet demand, as we saw with the technical problems which caused a power failure in South West London during November 2015. With the number of occupied buildings expected to have a 25% increase over the next 25 years, the current electricity grid simply will not be able to cope.
Building more power stations is one way in which this problem will be addressed, but this cannot be the only solution. With such a vast number of properties being required in London, it’s up to architects to ensure that we design plans for residential and commercial buildings which are as energy efficient as possible. Although we have always imbued all our work with a great focus on efficiency, with natural light being a wonderful natural resource, we always seek out opportunities to improve and develop our work even further.
We may be stating the obvious here, but there is no likelihood of the growth of London slowing down at any point soon, and we are proud to see our capital become one of the world’s most desirable places to live and work. We will remain mindful of the need for energy efficiency and functionality in all our work, ensuring we can continue to create buildings which complement and enhance their surroundings rather than placing further strain on them.
