The Design Council is a charity focused on enhancing the lives of communities through design. They are committed to improving the constructed environment and transforming public services by providing support for projects, delivering partner-funded programmes and consistently campaigning to raise awareness of the value of design.
The Council has recently published data revealing the design industry to be the ninth biggest employer in the UK with approximately 580,000 people in work across the sector. The Design Economy 2015 report states that £71.7 billion was contributed to the economy in 2013 with the gross value of the design economy increasing by 27.9% between 2009 and 2013. This reflects a higher climb than the 18.1% increase in the UK economy overall.
The report shows that continued investment in design is helping to increase productivity and stimulate growth to increase prosperity throughout the country.
