A construction company in China have a claim to the title of fastest building firm in the world after erecting a 57-storey skyscraper in just 19 days. The building has been named Mini Sky City. Although construction was hindered twice by bursts of bad weather, the time-lapse video of the construction has been shared several million times on various platforms since it was first uploaded to YouTube. Chen Xiangqian, the company’s engineer, has stated that the traditional method of building a skyscraper is a brick by brick, but their method used 2,736 ready-assembled blocks of bricks, which meant it could be completed a lot more quickly.
Modular construction methods aren’t a new concept, and have in fact been used in a considerable amount of high-rise blocks in Britain and the US. However, there is concern that if all construction firms adopt this approach, it could lead to cityscapes with uniform architecture, lacking in individuality. In contrast, industry experts are saying that it may be worthwhile to develop this idea further, as it could be an efficient and extremely safe way to build skyscrapers.
If this idea were to develop further to allow for more creativity alongside fast construction, it could change the way new homes and businesses are built. As an innovative architect in London we are always interested in new developments in building technology and look forward to seeing how these techniques might develop in the future. We make full use of technology in our architectural work, which allows us to provide our clients with a smooth and successful process from the first stages to the completion of the building.
