The problem of random trophy towers

The skyline of London is currently dominated by high rise buildings and with 263 buildings standing at over 20 storeys being proposed, it’s clear that construction isn’t going to slow down any time soon. At the same time, there are legitimate concerns over the number of high rise buildings that are being proposed and developed in the city.

There are worries over the development of what some architects are calling “random trophy towers”. It is thought that some of these towers are being constructed without much thought given to how they can be effectively used and occupied. It is also apparent that these types of buildings can lead to hyperdensity. Essentially, this means over 350 homes or dwellings per hectare. There are concerns about the social and environmental impacts of such developments, as well as long-term sustainability.

A recent report recommends that more emphasis be placed on residential developments of five to eight storeys. Towers should be better integrated with their surroundings, and residential developments should contain a balance of homes for those from all walks of life. The report also indicates that there should be a wider range of housing types, and space above public buildings should be used to the full.

We take our work very seriously as an architect in London, and strive to ensure that all work carried out fits in with the surroundings in an appropriate and sympathetic way. We create properties that integrate with the buildings and streets around them, enhancing life for people in the area. We take great pride in the work that we do and are completely dedicated to sustainability in all the buildings we work on, whether we’re creating a completely new structure or renovating and altering an existing one. If you wish to speak to a skilled and qualified architect in London, we are the first choice for all types of projects.
