Now we don’t mean physically get up and move around. Instead when we say dance we mean that the buildings are shaped to give this impression. There are a few properties that do just that, providing benefits for the people who live and work in them. The designs also stand out. Coffey Architects is the perfect architect London clients can work with if they are looking at these kinds of design. Below are five notable projects that appear to dance.
The Dancing House – Prague, Czech Republic
Frank Gehry designed the most famous flowing building in the world; just look at its name. It was complete in 1996, originally the office of an insurance company before becoming a hotel. The building is also known as Fred and Ginger to celebrate the famous dance partners. If you look closely it appears like the taller concrete tower is sweeping the glass form.
American Copper Buildings – New York, US
The two apartment blocks were complete in 2017 and add something special to the Manhattan skyline. They both have a kink part way up and connect via a skybridge. The design makes it seem like they are holding each other.
Dancing Towers – Seoul, South Korea
This trio of towers was first envisioned in 2012. Sadly they are yet to be complete but the concept art shows three skyscrapers that twist and flow. The inspiration for the design is the sleeves of the traditional dress of Seung-Moo dancers.
Dancing Towers – Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Although it has the same name as the project above, this one dates back to 2007. It is also for three towers, each with bends and twists. They touch in different locations and seem to be frozen while moving.
XI – New York, US
The newest project on the list is from earlier in 2018. The renderings show a pair of towers twisting around each other as if they are dancing. The properties would be homes and a hotel. The design allows for great views of the Hudson River and a local part from different parts of the buildings.
The designs are inspirational and show the relationship that buildings can have with one another. If you have any questions about this feel free to contact an architect London based clients rate highly. Coffey Architects can help you to visualise your design and offers support throughout projects.
