The commercial building at 51 Hills Road in Cambridge has won several awards, including prestigious ones from RIBA, RICS, and BCO. It recently received a Brick Award too, earning praise for the exceptional detailing of the brickwork. One feature that really makes the property stand out is that it doesn’t have an air conditioning system. Instead the building was designed with distinctive chimneys that promote natural ventilation and air flow. This is a more efficient solution, requiring no energy.

The project stands out because it had a relatively small £1.5 million budget and the site itself was rather unusual. It is relatively tight and is restricted by the close proximity to Listed buildings. The design made really good use of the space and money, creating a property that can be a long term asset.
