The London Festival of Architecture is back starting June 1 and will run until the end of the month. It is going to be another exciting year for the city. The programme of events is huge, including new installations, tours, talks, and lots of great events. It is not too late to plan your visit and see all the great sights.
Hubs
This year is extra special and the festival has four main hubs across the city. These areas celebrate the most architecturally significant parts of London so there is a lot to see.
London Bridge
This is part of the capital that is rapidly evolving in terms of architecture. It is a new cultural destination thanks to iconic landmarks like the Shard. This is a long way from its past full of inns and yards for goods trading.
The City of London
The City is always growing upwards. There are more identifiable skyscrapers here than anywhere else in the whole of the UK. These sit perfectly beside lovely older buildings.
The Royal Docks
Few areas in London have as much amazing history as the docks. This area was the driving force behind the growth of the city. Since the trade has moved away this area is now a prime spot for regeneration, resulting in beautiful new buildings and converted industrial architecture.
The West End
This popular part of London is home to some of the most amazing architecture but it is a little different to other parts of the city. There are very few skyscrapers here. Instead you can find beautiful theatres and some very grand buildings.
If you are planning a visit you can view the whole programme for the London Festival of Architecture on their website.
