We would like to take this opportunity to tell you more about two brilliant projects we have been working on lately.

Norwich digital technology hub

Norwich City College picked Coffey Architects to design a £9.1million tech hub. The scheme that has been dubbed The Digi-Tech Factory is 2,610msq. This space will house the technology, design, and engineering courses, catering for full-time as well as part-time students.

The job will add to the digital tech sector in Norfolk and Suffolk, a field which is already thriving. The work will support the teaching and research of almost 500 students. Subject to planning approval, the project is set to begin on the site next March.

This scheme is really exciting for Coffey Architects. The project will help us continue to grow our higher education portfolio. We are passionate about light and learning spaces. This is why we are looking forward to creating this important and innovative building for Norwich City College.

City University oval rooftop reading room

Coffey has also won the go-ahead for an oval rooftop reading room at City University. Islington Council gave approval for the plans for the extension to the library. This scheme is 2,298msq and will add a seventh-floor oval reading room to the building in Northampton Square.

The elliptical 45m x 17m addition is budgeted at around £7million. This space will ‘float’ above a renovated library space. It will feature a glulam timber diagrid facade as well as a central roof light. Work is due to begin on the site this autumn.

We chose the glulam structure because it is sustainable, lightweight, and offers the benefits of prefabrication. This is a very expressive project and will provide the university and students with a space they deserve.
