RIBA House of the Year longlist

It was recently revealed that twenty projects had found their way on to the longlist for the RIBA House of the Year award. The list is full of wonderful, very unique projects situated all across the UK. Incredibly our Hidden House is included on the list.

The award is given to the project that is judged to be the best new home or extension completed within the UK in the last year. The names added to the shortlist were all recipients of regional awards earlier in 2017. They move on to this next phase with the chance to win a bigger prize and a potential place in the running for the Stirling Prize.

Although we will give all of our backing to Hidden House that doesn’t stop us from appreciating the other projects on the longlist. One of them is the first building designed for the UK by American architect Richard Meier. The Oxfordshire house is situated on a hill in the countryside. It is a white building designed on English manor houses and has taken a decade to complete.

Woodman’s Treehouse in Dorsetshire is an equally eye-catching project. It is one of the most ambitious examples of woodland enterprise ever seen in the UK. The structure is independent of the English oak it sits in, ensuring the whole thing is incredibly stable. The design is a success of form and function and also provides beautiful views of the surroundings.

You can view the whole longlist and find out more about each project on RIBA’s website, www.architecure.com, under the Awards and Competitions Section. The winner will be announced in the autumn and all of the projects will feature in a special four part edition of Grand Designs.

At Coffey Architects we are pleased to have the honour to stand beside such beautiful, innovative projects. We hope this continues to showcase that we are an architect London based clients and those further afield can rely on to produce something really special.
